TMVT Registry

In 2021, the Australian Department of Health provided support for the public funding of a procedure called TMVr (Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair) using the MitraClip™ system (Abbott Structural, Santa Clara, CA, USA). This procedure is intended for patients with moderate-severe or severe symptomatic degenerative (or primary) mitral regurgitation (MR) and a left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) of at least 20%, who have been deemed ineligible for surgical intervention by a Heart Team.

The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Transcatheter Mitral Valve Therapies (TMVT) Accreditation Committee, which consists of cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons representing the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS), will officially recognize the operators and institutions performing transcatheter mitral valve interventions.

To be accredited, applicants must undergo the accreditation process for each site where the TMVr procedure will be conducted. It is the responsibility of the applicants to ensure that each site meets the required institutional criteria.

The TMVT Registry is currently under way.
